Studio Smooth is a writer’s studio nestled in the beautiful San Gregorio watershed on California’s San Mateo coast. As a lifelong musician and composer, I combine a variety of styles into my own blend of music. Drawing on my classical training and years of touring and gigging , I bring a distinctive sound and energy to all my compositions. Hopefully, it will resonate with you, the listener!

I’m Neil Panton, and I’ve dedicated my life to appreciating, understanding, and exploring music. Since my early teens I’ve been captivated by how music is constructed and the sounds and stories that music can tell. This passion has driven me to write and record original compositions for over five decades.

My varied influences and experiences are what have driven my composing. With a background spanning blues and funk bands to classical ensembles, as well as my time playing in classic/original rock bands and performing for corporate events and weddings, my music is a testament to a life spent on stage and in love with sound.

Experience the creativity of local musicians and their music through my radio program,
Music of the San Mateo Coast.
It’s on the air every day at 3 PM and 9 PM on community radio station KPDO, 89.3 FM in Pescadero, and KZSG, 90.7 FM in San Gregorio. This hour-long program features fellow musicians and songwriters who, like me, are inspired by this beautiful coastal community.

Alexander Panton
Ron Panton, my dad, was a musician, arranger, and composer. Born in 1915 in Novato CA, by the age of 14 Ron learned to play the organ and trumpet. In 1930 he joined the California National Guard Band, became an Eagle Scout, learned Morse code and got his ham radio license .Ron was fascinated with electronics and around 1934 worked as an electrician in the Bethlehem Shipyard, but before then he’d begun his long musical career.
